If you’re considering going electric, the UK government’s Electric Car Grant makes it easier than ever. You can save up to £3,750 on qualifying new electric vehicles, those priced under £37,000, with a minimum range of 100 miles (for cars registered after March 2022) and built to specific technical standards.
Eligible vehicles are pure electric, new, and only the first registered owner can claim. Used EVs, hybrids, and pre-registered cars do not qualify. Not sure about eligibility? Check GOV.UK or ask your dealership. A comprehensive list of eligibility is still to be determined, but below are some cars that could be eligible.
Potential Top Eligible Models at a Glance
Alfa Romeo Junior Elettrica SUV
List from £32,405 → approx £30,155 after grant
The brand’s stylish first EV offers punchy handling and a sporty 154 bhp motor. Most versions cover around 255 miles (WLTP), while the sporty Veloce variant offers 207 miles. Ideal for drivers who value dynamics, although rear legroom is tight and quality finishes are mixed. Still, it’s a well-priced, engaging alternative to the Jeep Avenger or Peugeot e‑2008. Alfa has temporarily reduced pricing by about £1,500 until September 2025
Peugeot e‑2008 SUV
List from £34,410 → approx £30,660 after grant
A refined, plush interior meets soft ride comfort and a 54 kWh battery yielding up to 250 miles WLTP. Fast 100 kW rapid charging lets you reach 20–80% in just 20–27 minutes. Both stylish and spacious, though rivals like the EV3 and Kona Electric offer more rear room
Abarth 500e Hatchback
List under £30,000 → eligible after grant
A fun, city‑oriented hatchback with peppy acceleration and Abarth flair. Range is modest (~160 miles), rear space is limited, and the boot is small. A niche choice for enthusiastic urban drivers, but it still may qualify for the grant.
Citroën ë‑C4 Family Car
List from £27,650 → approx £23,900 after grant
Combining practical family space with smooth ride and low cabin noise, the ë‑C4 offers a comfortable alternative to high‑riding SUVs. Range is decent but unremarkable. Excellent value if you prefer a refined drive without SUV bulk.
MG5 EV Estate
List from £30,995 → approx £27,245 after grant
One of the few EV estates under £37k, the MG5 pairs 61 kWh battery with a 250-mile official range and V2L towing capability. Roomy, with around 578 L boot, rear legroom, and solid standard safety tech. Everyday reliable, practical and family‑friendly
